Colin Watson - Principal Percussion

Colin Watson I joined the band in 1981 at the age of 12; in my 27 years I have worked my way up to the position of principal of my section, a position I am very proud to hold. I am married to Victoria, and have 2 sons Oliver and Euan. Oliver is 10 and is now playing Trombone in the junior band, and Euan is 7 and has just recently started to play Baritone, although he also wants to play drums as well, so it seems I will have some coaching to do in my spare time! Throughout my time in the band I have enjoyed many high points. One of my proudest and most privileged moments was representing Northern Ireland in Holland at the Europeans in Groningen in 2005. I have also had the honour of being awarded Percussionist of the Year after playing a fantastic piece called ‘Oceans’ with the band.

When I am not playing or rehearsing with the band, I work for Northern Ireland Railways as a Driver Training Assessor at the Training Centre in Belfast; I started in the railway as a porter after leaving secondary school, and have worked my way up through the company since then.
