Jonathan Simms MBE - Band President

Jonathan Simms It seems like yesterday when I was asked to be Captain of the Boy's Brigade Company and when I asked Mr. D J McCartney to be involved he said he would start a silver band.

What a momentous inspiration that proved to be. His boundless enthusiasm surmounted all difficulties.

I well remember the day in 1958 when the big box of instruments arrived at the railway station from Manchester, the cost approx £400.

When Joe Milliken, a highly respected and retired member of Her Majesty's Forces, heard of the formation of the Band he very generously gave the first donation of £5. Thank you, Joe.

I thank God for his goodness and guidance over the years and my sincere thanks goes to all those who have given of their wisdom, time and effort to make this Band what it is today.

Thank you for the honour of allowing me to be your President.
