Band Devastated at Death of it’s President
March 19 2020

Very sad times for the Third Carrick Band family in losing our long term member, E Flat Bass player and President Jim Simms who died suddenly at home on 11th March 2020.

Jim Simms

“Big Jim” was one of the key figures in reforming the 3rd Carrick BB Band back in April 1973 and set in motion a chain of events that would see the band rise from the very bottom of the 4th Section right to the top of local banding that included a run of 16 consecutive 1st place finishes, a record yet to be surpassed.

Without his vision, drive and always calm demeanour this would not have been possible and many of us owe him everything in terms of our banding memories.

This influence continued right up to his untimely death as our President, confidante and Chief Dicky Bow Designer (the product of which we will continue to wear with pride).

Our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time are particularly with Jean, Michael, Emma and his extended family which includes his band family as that's how it was with Jim! We can all be comforted by the mark he left on us and he can rest easy knowing his legacy will continue based on his astute guidance.
