Wonder of Music Oct 22

On Thursday 13th October 2022 the band performed along with voices and brass from Carrickfergus Grammar School in a concert billed as “A Celebration of the Wonder of Live Music”

A well filled assembly hall at Carrickfergus Grammar School saw the band, led by conductor Brian Connolly, perform a selection of film music, pop hits plus a performance of Martin Ellerby’s “Chivalry” which the band will be performing in the 104th North of Ireland Band Association contest on 22nd October. The finale of the concert saw members of the school music groups join the Third Carrickfergus Band in Jan de Haan’s arrangement of Tom Parker’s “The Young Amadeus” The school music groups also provided high quality choral and band pieces under the hugely experienced Edward Craig and Karen Withers. The evening was admirably compered by the band’s very own MC, Robert Smyth.

This was a wonderful opportunity to bring an audience together to see the high quality work being carried out by the school in developing young musicians and for the band, who perform at concerts and competitions throughout the year and work tirelessly as ambassadors for Carrickfergus and the East Antrim Area to show a glimpse of their impressive repertoire, range and quality as the only Championship Brass Band in the area, competing at the highest level. The band also relies on the quality of teaching from the schools and from its own junior band programme to ensure it’s continued success.

The Third Carrickfergus Band wish to thank all who attended the concert and sincerely hope you enjoyed the evening and also to all involved in making the concert happen and look forward to keeping this excellent relationship with the school going forward and to more concerts in the future.
